Dear Reader,
I’m excited to share Temple Run, an epic, festival-ready track inspired by jersey club and the original Ghost In The Shell (1995) film, scored by the great Kenji Kawai. Similar to Kawai’s score, I sampled Bulgarian choir harmonies and Japanese taiko drums to give Temple Run an epic, transcendent vibe that somehow works perfectly with the jersey club beat pounding away underneath.
In NYC, DJs regularly throw jersey club into their sets. It’s a fun style, but hasn’t evolved much over the past 25 years. When I first made the demo for Temple Run, it sounded so crazy it made me laugh out loud, but I quickly realized I’d actually created something seriously catchy, danceable, and unique. If you play this on a good system, it’s impossible not to move.
When I was booked to play Ecstatic Dance SLC over the summer, I knew it would be the perfect event to test it out, which prompted me to finish the track. The reaction was even better than I could’ve anticipated and was definitely a peak moment in the 2 hour set, probably my best performance to date (you can hear the whole set on Souncloud).
I’m grateful to Jesse Brede and the Gravitas team for their support over the years and for including Temple Run on their Summer Heat compilation—With any luck, you’ll hear it played out on a few stages this festival season!
You can download Temple Run for FREE here, and stream it along with the rest of the epic Summer Heat compilation on all platforms.
